Dr. Isaac Aleman and Dr. Juan Pablo Medina live in Queretaro, Mexico and serve as ChOSEN’s in-country medical missionaries since 2024. They founded Sky Vision in 2018 in Queretaro City and oversee ChOSEN’s missionary activities in Central Mexico.
Dr. Isaac Aleman completed his medical degree, ophthalmology residency and retina fellowship all at the University of Montemorelos.
Dr. Juan Pablo Medina completed his medical degree from the Universidad Autonoma de Queretaro and his ophthalmology residency at the University of Montemorelos.
ChOSEN Eye Mission has a long history of providing free cataract surgery and sight-restoring eye care in Mexico for patients with limited access to high-quality ophthalmic treatment.
Our work in Mexico helped establish the model ChOSEN now uses for international ophthalmology missions around the world. Volunteer ophthalmologists and medical professionals work alongside local physicians and staff to provide modern, high-quality eye surgery at no cost to patients.
ChOSEN’s roots in Mexico began in 2009, when Drs. J. Avery Rush and Ryan Rush began traveling to Mexico to provide ophthalmic surgery.
Over the following years, relationships with local ophthalmologists and communities grew, surgical facilities were developed, and modern ophthalmic equipment and supplies were brought to established surgical locations.
When Christian Ophthalmic Surgery Expedition Network (ChOSEN) was formally established as a nonprofit organization in 2014, Mexico became an important part of its international eye surgery program.
ChOSEN has conducted high-volume surgical projects in several regions of Mexico, including Chiapas, Nuevo León, Querétaro, Tabasco, and Tamaulipas.
ChOSEN believes patients in underserved communities deserve excellent surgical care regardless of their ability to pay.
Our international ophthalmology mission teams use modern surgical techniques, equipment, and supplies to provide high-quality cataract surgery and other ophthalmic care.
ChOSEN coordinates patient screening, surgical facilities, equipment, supplies, pre-operative evaluation, and post-operative care. This allows visiting ophthalmologists and surgical teams to focus on providing excellent patient care.
ChOSEN works with ophthalmologists, cataract surgeons, retina surgeons, ophthalmic nurses, scrub technicians, surgical technicians, and other qualified medical professionals who want to use their skills to serve patients in need.
ChOSEN coordinates airfare, accommodations, meals, ground transportation, and other travel logistics for approved volunteers. Our teams also organize the surgical facilities, patients, equipment, supplies, and supporting medical care needed for each project.
ChOSEN was founded on the belief that restoring sight provides an opportunity to demonstrate the love of Jesus Christ in a meaningful and practical way.
Our medical teams seek to provide excellent surgical care while our Christian mission teams share the Gospel, pray with patients and families, distribute Scripture, and provide compassionate spiritual support.

Approximately $250 in material costs can provide one sight-restoring eye surgery. Your support helps ChOSEN provide surgical supplies, intraocular lenses, medications, equipment, and free eye care to patients who otherwise may have limited access to treatment.
