ChOSEN Eye Mission provides free cataract surgery and other sight-restoring eye care in Nicaragua for patients who have limited access to high-quality ophthalmic treatment.
Through our Nicaragua ophthalmology mission program, volunteer ophthalmologists, nurses, surgical technicians, and local medical professionals work together to provide modern eye surgery at no cost to patients.
In 2023, ChOSEN opened the ChOSEN Eye Surgery Center in Chinandega, Nicaragua, creating a permanent location for our international eye surgery missions.
The surgical center was designed to support high-volume ophthalmic surgery and includes four operating rooms with eight surgical stations. ChOSEN typically conducts four high-volume surgical projects at the center each year.
Our established surgical model allows ChOSEN to coordinate patient screening, pre-operative care, surgery, and post-operative care so visiting ophthalmologists can focus on providing excellent surgical treatment.
ChOSEN welcomes qualified ophthalmologists, cataract surgeons, retina surgeons, ophthalmic nurses, scrub technicians, surgical technicians, and other medical professionals interested in serving on short-term medical mission trips in Nicaragua.
ChOSEN coordinates airfare, accommodations, meals, ground transportation, and other travel logistics for approved volunteers. We also organize patients, surgical facilities, supplies, equipment, and pre-operative and post-operative care.
This allows our volunteer surgical teams to concentrate on what they do best: restoring sight.
ChOSEN’s work in Nicaragua is both a medical and Christian mission. Not only does ChOSEN provide free eye surgery, our teams seek opportunities to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ and demonstrate His love through compassionate care.
Our goal is to restore sight, serve patients with dignity, and build a sustainable source of high-quality ophthalmic care for communities in need.

Approximately $250 in material costs can provide one sight-restoring eye surgery. Your support helps provide surgical supplies, intraocular lenses, medications, equipment, and patient care for people who might otherwise remain needlessly blind.
